It exists primarily to offer affordable holidays to contributors, who enjoy a very special discounted tariff and preferential booking rights for the Christmas and Easter school holidays.

CONFERENCE FACILITIES
Banana Beach Holiday Resort can cater to a large variety of conference options ranging from groups of 10 to 100 people in different venue options. Meals can also be provided. Our new Conference venue will be launched in August 2010 affording us the opportunity to cater to almost any conferencing requirement. All venues will be air-conditioned with various audio and visual options and equipment.
WHAT TO DO?
Beach. We have one of the best beaches on the coast with secure safe swimming under the supervision of lifesavers in season and on weekends. Our beach is also shark-net protected.
Swimming Pool and Children’s Pool
Jungle Gym and Trampoline. There are two jungle gyms on the premises as well as a trampoline for the children’s enjoyment
Fishing. Fishing can be done from the beach or rocks in close proximity to the resort. This is a popular pastime for both young and old with a host of species on offer. Fishing licenses are required and can be purchased at the nearest post office which is roughly 3km from the resort.
Snorkeling. Both young and old can spend many hours scouting the rock pools and snorkeling in the rock pools looking at the variety of sea life that call this place home.
Dolphin and Whale watching. The Humpback Whale is a seasonal visitor to our coastline and is seen in large groups from June through to November when they travel through the area, firstly going north to calf during the winter months and later on route back to the colder oceans of the Cape and Arctic regions.
Dolphins can be spotted throughout the year, especially during the months May-August when there is heightened activity in the region due to the possibility of the Sardine run.
Golf. The South Coast is a very popular region for all forms of sport, but golf is very high on the favorite list. With no less than 8 Golf courses in a 70km radius of the resort, makes it an ideal venue to use as a base from which one can play a different course each day of the week. These courses are Wild Coast Sun, San Lameer, Umdoni, Selbourne, Port Shepstone, Margate, Southbroom, and Port Edward.
Deepsea Fishing and Scuba Diving. With the world-famous Aliwal Shoal on our doorstep, the South Coast offers some of the most spectacular scuba diving and deep-sea fishing in South Africa.
Laundromat. We offer an on-site self-help laundry facility that operates daily from 15:30. Tokens for these are available at the office at a nominal fee.
Adventure Activities. For those adrenaline junkies, there is a selection of adrenaline-filled activities to participate in at the well-known Oribi Gorge (30km). Activities include river rafting,
Gorge Swing, Abseiling, and Kloofing. There is also skiing and other activities in Port Shepstone, and other towns along the coast.
Nature. If you would like to spend some time out in the bush exploring the natural wonders, there are some nature reserves in the area. These reserves are the Oribi Gorge Game Reserve, with a variety of hiking trails as well as Mt bike trails; the Vernon Crooks Nature Reserve near Umzinto and the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve near Port Edward.
Oribi Gorge. Adrenaline is served in generous portions in the Oribi Gorge area. If adventure is in your blood, you can look forward to activities ranging from a relaxed exploration of this phenomenal natural paradise to the adrenalin-inducing (and nerve-wracking) experience of hurling yourself off the top of Lehr’s Waterfall (a 33-story fall).
Lake Eland. Named after the antelope that abounds here. Enjoy a relaxing day in nature with lots to do for the whole family.
Pure Venom Reptile and Snake park. An absolute must-see for young and old, get close to the most stunning creepy crawlies.
Sardine run. Each year an unbelievable feeding frenzy takes place in the oceans of South Africa as billions of sardines migrate up the Kwa Zulu Natal coast creating a unique and exhilarating experience for divers, birders, whale watchers, and anglers.
Casino. The well-known Wild Coast Sun Casino is merely 50km away from the resort and is the ideal venue to spend the day with the family, with lots to do for both the young and old.
Shopping Facilities. All the daily requirements can be purchased either in Port Shepstone, or Hibberdene. For those with a need to do some more serious shopping, Shelly Beach (25km) offers a larger variety at the Shelly Beach Mall and the new South Coast Mall. If this still is not enough for you then Durban is a mere 110km away and is a comfortable drive on the highway all the way.
Mac Bananas. Mac Banana is so much more than just a farm stall. You will be surprised at the array of fresh fruit and vegetables on display in their store. The shelves are always well stocked with only the freshest items.
They pride themselves in ensuring that we provide their customers with good quality fruits and vegetables for their convenience. However, they’re certainly not limited to just fruit and vegetables – there is also a large selection of jams and preserves, honey, sweets, snacks, gifts, fresh flowers and so much more
Their prominent location on the R61 National Rd between Palm Beach and Munster makes them an easy stop-off point for picking up your fresh produce.
Croc World (Scottburgh). This popular tourist attraction is one of the largest crocodile farms in South Africa and hosts not only crocodiles but also a variety of snakes, birds, monkeys and parrots.
Riverbend Crocodile farm (Ramsgate). Riverbend Crocodile Farm owned by the Kelly family has been managed by Howard Kelly the eldest son of the late Corky Kelly since 1989. The farm is open daily with the exception of Good Friday and Christmas day each year and the operating hours are from 9h00 to 16h30 daily. Feeding takes place on Sunday afternoons.
Home to more than 200 adult nile crocodiles and numerous juveniles of all sizes, tourists visiting Riverbend Crocodile Farm are able to view the crocodiles in their natural habitat. Beautifully landscaped breeding enclosures are not only home to crocodiles but to numerous bird species as well.
Port Shepstone Lighthouse. The lighthouse is situated at the mouth of the Umzimkulu River on the Natal South Coast. The town was named after a well-known statesman in native affairs, Sir Theophilus Shepstone.
Port Shepstone Museum. Explore the cultural history of the region and learn about shipwrecks and all other interesting aspects of the region.
Space Centre (Port Edward). The Space Centre consists of an astronomical museum, with probably the largest private collection of telescopes, books and optical equipment, and astronomical photographs and posters, as well as lasers, an observatory, which was originally on top of the Planetarium, and a small planetarium seating 80 people.
